The Definition of a Wholesale Nursery

A wholesale nursery is where plants are grown and sold for transplanting, for budding, grafting or layering, stocks or for restoration, wetland mitigation or conservation, environmental landscaping or for the beautiful gardens found a
fff
t innumerable homes, businesses, parks and a myriad of other landscapes. Wholesale nurseries produce and distribute everything you need for your projects, such as incredible varieties of trees, shrubs, ferns and shrubs, both flowering and non-flowering, woody or herbaceous perennials, annuals, container plants and ornamental grasses; as well as groundcovers, evergreen conifers, bare root reforestation seedlings, rootstock, native plants and liner stock. A nursery not only supplies all the flowers and greenery that you desire, but also perennial vegetables such as are used in a home garden.

Whether you are a landscaping designer or landscape architect (business) or whether you are a home gardener, (expert or beginner hobbyist), a reputable wholesale nursery can not only provide all your needs while saving you some serious money, but the expert horticulturists can advise you on your growing zone, what grows well together, expert care for your purchases, (whether a product is low maintenance or requires a good deal of care), pest and disease control, soil types, fertilizers, or any other questions you may have, in order to attain your goals and to perfect your dream landscaping project.

Their expertise can help you to avoid many costly mistakes and frustrations, while helping you to save an incredible amount of money, no matter what kind of budget you have. Armed with expert knowledge, you can create and own an attractive landscape design that will not only beautify and increase the value of your property, but will also inspire you to address and remedy any environmental issues that hinder the development of your landscape.
The idea of landscaping causes many people to think it is an expensive undertaking, but the truth is that it can be accomplished with very satisfactory results, no matter what kind of budget you have to work with. It is important to create a good design to avoid making unnecessary and costly mistakes, and wasting your valued time and labor. Friends, neighbors, family and of course, your favorite nursery or garden or landscape supply center can also offer advice, information and creative, economical ideas for your landscaping or garden projects, to assist you in making responsible and prudent choices. It is best to work methodically, doing one section of your project at a time, in order to eliminate any unnecessary work done in the absence of foreknowledge.

In today's society, a wealth of information is available through magazines and books, as well as a treasure chest full of informative articles, forums, blogs etc., found on the internet. There are many reputable wholesale suppliers and nurseries available to serve you, but it is best to find one that is state certified and offers specimen quality stock.
According to the government, all licensed nurseries are to purchase and sell only certified stock. All stock offered for sale must have been inspected and certified free of harmful plant pests within 12 months preceding sale. Under state law, some nurseries are exempt from being certified, if they are classified in certain brackets and that certain criteria are fulfilled. A Certificate of Nursery Inspection is issued to those nurseries that are inspected. Then Nursery Stock is inspected wherever grown and is certified to be free from any injurious plant pests. Stock is 'Certified' to prevent the introduction and/or spread of unwanted graft-transmissible agents (virus, viroids, phytoplasmas and bacterial diseases) via propagation from infected vines or roots. Planting with 'Certified' stock is the best insurance for a healthy and productive garden or landscape.

When you buy from a wholesaler or a wholesale nursery, you can expect plants that suit your landscaping needs; whether they must be drought tolerant or have the ability to grow in wetlands; whether they must withstand frigid temperatures with snow or have the ability to tolerate the heat of southerly places; or whether you require low maintenance or love to work with 'fussier' specie
fff
s. The experts at a wholesale nursery are also knowledgeable about pests and diseases that plague certain species, or which plants have the root system that contributes in controlling soil erosion, reduce water wastage and aid water penetration in the soil.

Bulk buying, weekly specials and discounts, and state certified, quality specimen stock are certainly prime reasons to purchase at a reputable wholesale supply company or wholesale nursery. Be sure to take the step to visiting one soon. You will be glad you did!

The Secrets to Opening a Successful Nursery

With the New Year now upon us, it is only natural that many peoples thoughts will turn to opening their own business. And whilst the credit crunch has hit many businesses hard, the pre school childcare sector is still a popular choice for many new start businesses. This article looks at some points that would be nursery owners should consider before going it a
fff
lone.

The first thing to consider before committing to full time childcare and the stresses and strains that come with employing staff, sorting premises and offering a facility that is likely to open pretty much all year round is that other options may exist. You may want to ease your way into the childcare industry by setting up a playgroup or offering a childminding facility from home before taking the big step that is setting up a nursery. However, once you have made the initial decision and have decided that running your own nursery is what you want, you really need to start to look at the financial implications involved.

The truth is that setting up and running your own nursery is not going to be an instant route to riches. In fact, if your motivation for running a nursery is based purely on the financial returns that maybe possible, then it might be worth considering if the childcare industry is right for you at all. Owners of nurseries and other pre school facilities are rarely solely motivated by money and are more often driven by their desire to provide quality childcare. By doing this you may well reap the rewards that a successful nursery can bring but it is important to remember that hard work, patience, enthusiasm and even more patience will be required time and time again long before you start to see any noticeable return on your investment.

On the subject of costs, your first task once you have decided to set up a nursery is to find premises. This search for suitable premises is likely to involve doing some market research to see if there is actually a need for a nursery in the area you are looking to set up in. The nursery and childcare sector as a whole is, like most other industries extremely competitive so you need to make sure there is suitable gap in the market for you to establish your new nursery in the face of competition from more established nurseries.

And once you have decided that an opportunity does exist for a new nursery in a particular location, you then have the choice of renting, buying or indeed building suitable premises for your nursery. Add to this the costs of toys, equipment, staffing, getting regulated and utilities and soon the task of setting up a successful nursery looks pretty daunting.

The 2 main secrets to setting up a successful nursery are therefore to do a thorough job when it comes to researching your market. This will involve doing a full competitor analysis of other nurseries, pre schools, childminders and playgroups that exist in your area. This process will involve finding out where and who they are, how much do they charge, how many children do they have, how much do they make, how many staff do they employ, how much do they pay their staff and no doubt numerous other questions.

If after this extensive market research you feel an opportunity does still exist then the second secret to running a successful nursery is to use marketing better than your competitors to make sure parents and other people know about your nursery for all the right reasons. You could have the best nursery in the world but unless your potential customers know about it then your time, money and hard work could all go to waste. And when it comes to marketing your nursery, you do not necessarily have to spend a great deal of money doing this.

Generate word of mouth in your local area, get the media involved so they report on your progress every step of the way, set up a website so you can promote and showcase your facilities and make sure when parents are faced with the very difficult question of what childcare facility should I choose, your nursery is number one on their list, or certainly amongst the front runners.

Setting up a nursery takes time, hard work and effort and setting up a successful nursery takes all of these things plus a little bit of lady luck. However, in the hardest of financial climates, it is still possible to fulfil your dreams and be successful. If you intend to make 20
fff
09 the year when your nursery dreams become reality, then do your research, become great at marketing and all the very best of luck.

Never let you go one shot. Epilogue.

Epilogue ---------------------------------------------- It was a month and a half later when we found out we were having a baby. Selena and I were so exited that we decorated the nursery the weekend after. It was a cute nursery with purple walls and chocolate wooden furniture. The crib had a soft Elmo (A/N xD) baby blanket and a teddy bear on the inside. We didn't even know if we were having a girl or a boy. Selena wanted to wait to find out what we were having but I wanted to know so badly that we came up with a compromise. So when she was 6 months pregnant we found out we were having a little girl. I was secretly hoping for a girl so I could beat up any boys who mistreated her, and to have a little Selena around. Selena was beside herself she was so happy. Then came the night we were all VERY excited for. Selena was in labor for 16 hours before our little girl decided she was ready to come out. At first when I saw her I thought she was an angel. Sel held her first, and when she offered her to me to hold I got nervous. "Do you think I'll break her?" "Of coarse not Nick, just be really gentle." I remember her soft voice whispering those words. I took the baby from her and sat in the chair next to Selena's bed. I looked down at her face and could feel tears running down my cheeks. "What are we going to name her?" I looked up to Selena who had been unresponsive. "I'm not sure. What do you have in mind?" "Abigail Rose Jonas." "That's a beautiful name." When the nurse came in ...

Rice nursery bed is holding water. I dug down a few feet to hit the cool consistent temps in a shady spot. I then submerged a plastic container that has holes drilled for drainage. Filled the container with good soil & places two varieties of radish & a head of lettuce inside. It is my hopes with the blocking of the sun and depth it will allow for cool weather crops to be grown. If it works small scale I will modify parts of the yard to see how it really works out. What is a wholesale nursery?

Type of plants in a nursery

The majority of nurseries grow a variety of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and shrubs. The plants sold in nurseries are used to beautify the landscape, the house make beautiful garden, or can you even buy vegetables and farm businesses. Nurseries can also be very focused and can be involved only in a peri
fff
od of plant growth. Some nurseries propagating their plants, others grow to adult plants, some only sell plants for landscapingand other plants sold for ground cover (eg shade trees, rock garden plants).

There are several ways to plant, but most nurseries to propagate methods such as budding, grafting or layering.

Nursery and Green Houses

Plants in a nursery are often grown in a green house. The green house is usually a structure made of glass or plastic specializes in using catch the rays of the sun. Green houses also protect young plants and shrubs from cold weather, cold, whereasAt the same time providing access to light and clean air. Most modern greenhouses have bright state of the art equipment with features such as automatic temperature control, improved ventilation, and alternate day cycles, semi computerized irrigation systems. Some houses have green roofs that open to allow "hardening" of plants, without the possibility of a manual transfer of assets outside regularly.

Running a preschool

Running a nursery is hard work and requiredHands on work. Although many devices / systems have become more efficient, many other basic work still requires work. Running a nursery is also time-consuming, because not all plants can be cared for in a similar process, or at the same time. Different plants require different conditions, so plants grow in a nursery care requires careful observation, sound judgment and some manual skills. To a first rate children's garden, you also need a good discernment and aptitude in the selection isof selling such assets.

Even if the plant ready for sale, the business is seasonal, with most consumer buying in the spring and autumn. One can never predict when it will be a demand for the plant. Furthermore, the environment (eg drought, frost) is temperature, products cheaper abroad and outbreaks of diseases affect the crop production. Running a nursery is always associated with certain risks, and nothing is guaranteed.

When the plants are ready, they are sold inseveral ways. Nurseries can sell some annuals in large bowls, shallow bowls, peat pots, porcelain or plastic pots. Each discipline can only be one or more plants. Most perennials, shrubs and trees in pots can either bare root or balled and are sold in various sizes, ranging from liners to mature trees.

Travel Canada -- Ontario Getaways -- Peterborough and the Kawartha Lakes Region

TheKawartha Lakes region has always been one of my favourite getaway destinations from Toronto -- it is just about 1.5 hours from the city. We embarked on our weekend getaway on July 2, 2010 shortly before 5 pm and arrived at our destination, the Golden Pathways Bed and Breakfast, only 75 minutes later. Owner Cora Whittington welcomed us and showed us to our spacious room which had a walkout to a nice patio that overlooked the rolling meadows of the Whittington's cattle farm. Cora Whittington herself is a very interesting bed and breakfast host: not only does she run a B&B, but she also works as a leadership trainer and life coach. Her entire basement is set up as a spacious seminar facility and I could definitely see how this serene country environment would inspire people to learn. With Cora's engaging personality we were talking in no time. After settling in we got ready to explore Peterborough, a city of about 75000 residents just east of Toronto. We approached the town from the east and ended up on the eastern shores of Little Lake, the town's large body of water that is highlighted by the Centennial Fountain. Fishermen had set up shop on the shore and kayakers were enjoying the waters, right in the middle of the city. We took a stroll down the main street, called George Street North, which features a variety of retail outlets and restaurants. Further south is Del Crary Park, a popular outdoor venue for the Peterborough Summer Festival of Lights which hosts free ...

If you intend to make 2009 the year when your nursery drea
fff
ms become reality, then do your research, become great at marketing and all the very best of luck.

What Is A Wholesale Nursery?

Type of plants in a nursery

The majority of nurseries grow a wide variety of annuals, perennials, woody plants, trees, and shrubs. The plants sold at nurseries can be used to beautify the landscape, make the home garden pretty or one can even buy vegetable and agricultural plants. Nurseries can also be very focused and may be involved in only one peri
fff
od of plant growth. Some nurseries only propagate plants, others grow the adult plants, some only sell plants for landscaping and other sells plants for ground cover (e.g. shade trees, rock garden plants).

There are several ways to propagate plants but most nurseries use methods like budding, grafting or layering.

Nursery and Green Houses

Plants at a nursery are often grown in a green house. The green house is usually a structure made of glass or specialized plastic to help capture the sun's rays. Green houses also protect young plants and shrubs from cold frigid weather while at the same time providing access to light and clean air. Most modern greenhouses have state of the art equipment with features like automatic temperature control, improved ventilation, alternating light and day cycles, semi computerized watering systems. Some green houses also have roofs that can open to permit "toughening" of plants without the need to manually transfer the plants outside on a regular basis.

Running a Nursery

Running a nursery is hard work and required hands on labor. Even though many equipments/systems have become efficient, a lot of other basic work still requires labor. Running a nursery is also time-consuming because not all plants can be cared for in a similar method or at the same time. Different plants require diverse conditions to grow so plant care in a nursery requires meticulous observation, sound judgment and some manual skills. To be a first rate nursery, one also requires good judgment and aptitude when it comes to selecting appropriate plants for sell.

Even when plants are ready for sell, business is seasonal, with most consumers buying in spring and autumn. One can never foretell when there will be a demand for the plant. Further, the environment (e.g. drought, frost), temperature, cheaper overseas products, and outbreaks of diseases also affect plant production. Running a nursery is always linked with certain risks and nothing is guaranteed.

When plants are ready, they are sold in several ways. Nurseries may sell some annuals in large trays, flat trays, peat pots, porcelain, or plastic pots. Each tray may contain only one or several plants. Most perennials, shrubs and woody plants may be sold in either pots, bare root or balled and in several sizes, varying from liners to mature trees.

Nursery Design Tips - Ten Ways to Create a Practical Baby Room Design

Creating a beautiful nursery design for your new baby to be is one of the most fulfilling aspects of pregnancy. You get to pour all your love and excitement at the anticipation of a new life into your nursery decorating project.
But don't forget that you'll be spending a lot of time in the baby nursery after your baby arrives. Use the tips in this article to make sure that your perfectly decorated nursery room is easy to use as well as beautiful!

1. Choosing Your Nursery Room
Many of us don't have more than one room in the home that would be suitable for the baby nursery. however, if you do have a choice of rooms choose the one closest to yours. The less mileage you have to cover in the middle of the night the better.

2. Babies are Messy
Babies are well-known for spitting up, peeing and pooing at the worst possible times. To decrease your stress levels at this naturally occurring event you should make sure that everything you put in your nursery is either washable, or inexpensive enough to throw away.

3. Comfort is Key
Choose your nursery glider or rocking chair carefully. Sit in as many as you can before you make a purchase. You will spend many hours sitting in this chair in the first few months, many of them in the wee hours. The last thing you need is a chair that makes your back and neck ache when you're breastfeeding or rocking your little one to sleep.

4. Choose the Right Nursery Rug
A nursery rug that moves, wrinkles or shows a dirty mark every time you step on it will drive you slowly bananas - been there - done that! Buy a fairly heavy-duty rug and use a good rug pad to avoid these recurring moments of insanity.

5. Don't Skimp on Storage Space
You will need plenty of space to store all of baby's little goodies and clunky gear. Take this into account when you decide on your baby furniture. A good nursery storage plan will help you to squeeze lots of extra space out of your baby room.

6. Draw a Floor Plan
Complete a floor plan before buying any furniture. This way you can make sure you will have enough space in the baby nursery. A great way to visualize the room is to make large cutouts using the exact dimensions of your furniture and lay them on the floor. (Newspapers or plastic paint sheets work well.) Move these around on the floor until you are happy with their placement.

7. Power Up
Many of the gadgets and gear you will be using in your new baby nursery will require electricity. Take a look at where the plug points are in the room while you are deciding on your furniture layout. If you want a nursery lamp on the night stand is there a plug point nearby? The last thing you want is wiring trailing from one side of the nursery to the other. Not only is it ugly, it's not safe for you or your baby.

8. Night Light Essentials
Getting around the nursery in the middle of the night, in the dark, with a sleeping baby in your arms and a half empty bottle wedged under your chin is no easy task. You can make life easier by putting your night-light in a place where it is easy to reach and operate.

9. Think Dirty Diapers
Diapers are going to become a huge part of everyday life over the next few months. make changing your baby a breeze by including a changing surface in your nursery design that is at the right height for you. Constantly bending over to change baby's diaper and clothes on the floor or in the crib is a real back-breaker.

10. What Can You See!
Try to place your feeding chair near a window. You may as well stare at something pleasant when you're in the chair rocking your baby for the fifteenth time in one day! Along the same lines, make sure you can see a clock from where you are sitting. It will keep you sane, especially in the middle of the night when two minutes can feel like two hours!

Qualifications Needed for Nursery Nurse Jobs

Nursery nurse jobs refer to jobs that exist in schools and daycares in the United Kingdom. Quite often the people who work in these positions do not have a university degree. Another term that could be used to describe this position is that of teacher assistant. Nursery nurses assist the teacher in a nursery, infant or primary classroom. Schools, day nurseries, hospitals and private nurseries are some of the employers that hire personnel to work in this field. However, even though the job title says you are not a nurse in terms of the medical professions interpretation of the word.

Top Ten Nursery Themes

Top Ten Nursery Themes
Are you still unsure of your baby nursery decorations? There are so many designs which you want to use but of course, you only have to choose one. So how do you choose a theme that you will want your baby to have? Remember that your baby’s nursery is the first place that your child will be exposed to. You need to choose a theme that will best suit your baby. You also need to remember that your baby will stay in his nursery almost all the time when he is awake, so make sure that you pick a theme that will be pleasing to you and your baby.
Top ten baby nursery decorations that you might want to consider are:
1. Color themes are one of the simplest yet most effective designs. These are the designs used to denote gender differences for babies.  Pink and purple are chosen for baby girls while blue and green are for baby boys. For unisex themes, you may stick to neutral colors of beige, cream or white.
2. Cute animals including farm animals can be a popular choice. You can choose a room filled with elephants, birds, dogs, ducks, cats, dogs and other animals. Animals are a good way to decorate since there are so many toys designed after animals that you can use for your baby’s room.
3. A whimsical theme can also work for your baby. Paint seahorses, shells, mermaids or starfishes. Keep the colors light and soft that will relax your baby.
4. Celestial themes such as the stars, moons, sun can mimic the sky and put it inside your baby’s room. Your baby can wake up to the sun and sleep through the stars. Since your baby still cannot appreciate the sky in the morning or at night, you can now bring it to your baby.
5. Themes following the elements earth, wind, fire, earth or water can be really a soothing baby nursery decoration. As long as these are done in moderation, these can really be effective nursery themes.
6. Famous fairy tale characters like princesses from Disney can also be an inspiration for your baby’s room. Princess designs can really be perfect for baby girls. You may also want to choose a Barbie themed room. Barbie products offer a lot of thing that you may use as baby nursery decorations.
7. Cartoon characters such as Looney tunes characters, sponge bob, Mickey Mouse and other cartoons can also be used as a nursery theme. These provide a wide range of choices from which you can choose from.
8. Mosaic and abstracts may work in minimal amounts only because babies cannot understand these themes. For them, these are just added color which can really bring out the room’s designs.
9. A playground theme will be a perfect theme that will allow your child to get a feel of the outside world. They can have a playground of their own in their rooms while they still cannot go out of the house.
10. Lastly, a room with no theme may work out for you. If you find it such a hassle to redecorate your baby’s room when he grows up, then you may choose this option. This can allow you to easily switch from cribs to beds when the time comes.

Progressing With Nursery Assistant Jobs

With the objective of improving the childcare and education provided to children, the nurseries now provide opportunities for jobseekers to work with them and gain plenty of benefits, not only financially, but for their careers as well. This is why more people are now looking into nursery jobs, even those who have no background or any prior experience in the field. There is nothing wrong with this, of course. Although some companies require some higher qualifications for certain position levels, there are job posts in nurseries that can be occupied by someone who does not qualify for the higher positions. These job posts are called nursery assistant jobs.

Nursery assistant jobs are also concerned with caring for the children but only when supervised by a more senior officer. Some nurseries may require qualifications for these positions, but some may also take anyone in, as long as the necessary traits and skills are present in the applicant. As a nursery assistant progresses and gains more experience, he or she gains more chances of getting promoted to a higher position level.

As a nursery assistant, it is natural to eye a higher position level, which naturally pays well, of course. The opportunities present for higher officers are also enticing. To qualify for a nursery manager position from a nursery assistant job, a worker has to gain more skills. Communication needs become even more important, because a nursery manager will have more exposure to interacting with parents and discussing with them. The people skills of a nursery manager aspirant are very important. More skills will come into play as well, such as the ability to discern and detect problems and concerns, and to respond appropriately to these. A nursery assistant also needs to develop managerial skills and gain sufficient knowledge about how to run the nursery as a whole. After all, nursery managers also have operational responsibilities.

One of the biggest differences between a nursery manager’s job and that of a nursery assistant is that a nursery manager will most likely be faced with the task to care and handle children with special needs. These needs can be anything from psychological, mental, emotional, and physical troubles. A nursery assistant who is aspiring for a higher position should keep this in mind. He or she should be ready for this additional challenge and should also be capable of handling the situation.

The best way to prepare for a promotion to become a nursery manager is to talk to your supervisor and ask about the areas that you still have to work on. Ask what skills are lacking in you so you can work on improving them. Progressing to a nursery manager position is a privilege for all nursery assistants. Those who are up for the challenge should work really hard to reach the next level in their careers. After all, the benefits and opportunities waiting for them are far greater, so more effort and dedication is definitely called for. Don’t worry, though, it will all be worth it. The higher your position is, the more you can influence a lot of children, and help out those who are suffering through problems. The emotional reward is also quite fulfilling, you will see.
